A few years back CA Anti-virus was pretty good. I'm pretty sure they went under another name, "e-trust" or "etrust" and may even have had some Microsoft affiliation, or so they claimed. I know you could get a copy from MS at the time and with a six month trial too.
I got a copy a few years ago and they've been bugging me ever since.
Recently I got an e-mail (followed by five more) that said they were unable to renew my subscription because they were having a hard time charging my card - the one I never gave them permission to use in the forst place. I don't do auto renewals ... Ever!!
Fortunately, it was an old card and no longer valid. I went to their site to cancel everything. That's where the problems began. If there's one thing I really can't stand is a company that makes it nearly impossible to cancel e-mails, services, subscriptions easily.
So off I went to their site at http://shop.ca.com/ then to my account, which needed a password reset. After a few attempts at reseting the password, I got an e-mail with the web address: http://ca.com/consumer/support. Go ahead click on it.
Finally I got in to the site, which somehow lists seven licenses in my name.
First stop, Customer Support, which has nothing but links to knowledge base articles that don't answer any question, with the possible exception of how to pay for more stuff.

There's no number, e-mail, or instruction on how to cancel this piece of crap.
Finally after some digging I came across the cancellation page. Of course the requirements to cancel are a number of hoops you have to jump through in order to confirm who you are. Just look at the information they want:

Order Number? Maybe that's OK. But an activation code? That's pushing it. Who holds on to that? And there's no way to get that from your account. I'd have to dig through e-mails to find that, if I even had it.
Now, try reaching out to a real person. No e-mail support. The forum answers no questions and if you want to talk to anyone on the phone it's $20 - Eff that.
