Changing Icon Size on the Desktop

I like my desktop uncluttered. My dad likes his filled to capacity with icons. We both like the icons to be small. Him because he gets more real estate and me because I like wide open spaces. There's no real obvious way to make the icons your desktop smaller and I hate to admit how long it took me to figure out how to make the icons smaller. I probably went to every setting in the Control Panel.

But all you have to do is use a combination of the Ctrl key and the mouse wheel. Press down the Ctrl key and roll the mouse wheel.
