By default the My Documents folder is located on the main (C:) drive. If you have only one drive there's not a lot you can do about that, but if you have multiple drives it's a good idea to keep your documents, images, movies, and music on a different drive than the one your operating system and programs are on.
Why? Because if you're like me and re-install the operating system every six to nine months you don't have to backup all your files every six to nine months. Even if you're not that extreme, it makes sense to have your important files somewhare else. Windows 7 has made this pretty easy to do and it's another indication that Microsoft listened to users and partners this round.
To move the My Documents folder to another location:
- Go to "C:\Users\<Username>" using Windows Explorer (Press WINDOWS KEY + E to access this). Then, right click on My Documents and select Properties to open the My Documents Properties window.

- Click the Location tab, specify and new location (where you want your documents folder to be) and click Move.

The My Documents folder will still appear in the same places it always does, but its contents and where Windows thinks it is will be in the new location.

YOu can use the same technique for other folders like My Pictures, My Music, My Movies ...
